Our History
Sandy Kids Club has been serving children and families in the Sandy community since 1991. Originally founded as The Sandy Club by community leader Linda Martinez Saville, the Club began with a simple but powerful idea: every child deserves a safe place to belong, learn, and grow.
What started in a small double-wide trailer has grown into a welcoming youth center serving hundreds of children each year. While our space and programs have grown, the heart of the Club remains the same—creating a supportive environment where young people feel safe, valued, and connected.
In 2026, The Sandy Club became Sandy Kids Club, a name that better reflects the children and families we serve and our continued commitment to being “A Safe Place for Kids.”
Today, Sandy Kids Club continues to reflect the compassion and commitment that inspired its founding. Our programs are designed to give children a safe, welcoming place with caring adults, positive experiences, and opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
Sandy Kids Club Today
Each day at Sandy Kids Club, children find a place where they can relax after school, build friendships, explore new interests, and get the support they need to thrive.
Our programs provide a balanced mix of learning, recreation, social-emotional development, and community connection. Children have opportunities to play and be active, receive homework and academic support, participate in enriching activities, and develop skills that support their growth and well-being.
We also work closely with families to help connect children with resources and support both at the Club and at home.
At Sandy Kids Club, we support the whole child and their family by offering:
- A welcoming space to build friendships and social confidence
- Safe opportunities for play, sports, and physical activity
- Homework help, tutoring, and academic support
- Activities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and leadership
- Social-emotional learning and opportunities to develop positive life skills
- Connections to counseling and emotional wellness services
- Food, school supplies, clothing, and other basic necessities for families who need them
- Opportunities to explore interests, build confidence, and connect with their community
Supporting Families
We know that when families are supported, children are better able to learn, grow, and thrive. In addition to our youth programs, Sandy Kids Club operates a Family Food Pantry to help ensure that children and their families have access to nutritious food during times of need.
The pantry provides supplemental food support to Club families and helps reduce food insecurity so children can focus on school, friendships, and personal growth. Through generous community donations and partnerships, we are able to provide groceries and essential food items to families throughout the year.
A Trusted, High-Quality Program
Families trust Sandy Kids Club because we are committed to maintaining a high-quality, safe, and supportive environment for every child. Our program works closely with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services and follows Utah Child Care Licensing standards to support best practices in safety, supervision, and youth development.
We are also proud to collaborate with the Utah Afterschool Network, a statewide organization dedicated to strengthening afterschool and summer learning programs for children and families.
Through these partnerships, Sandy Kids Club stays connected to training, resources, and best practices that help us provide a safe, enriching, and high-quality experience for every child who walks through our doors.
