Our History
The Sandy Club has been serving children and families in the Sandy community since 1991. Founded by community leader Linda Martinez Saville, the Club began with a simple but powerful idea: every child deserves a safe place to belong, learn, and grow.
What started in a small double-wide trailer has grown into a welcoming youth center serving hundreds of children each year. While our space has grown, the heart of the Sandy Club remains the same—creating a supportive environment where young people feel safe, valued, and connected.
Today, the Sandy Club continues to reflect the compassion and commitment that inspired its founding. Our programs are designed to ensure that every child—regardless of background or circumstance—has access to positive experiences, caring mentors, and opportunities to succeed.
The Sandy Club Today
Each day at the Sandy Club, children find a place where they can relax after school, build friendships, explore new interests, and get the support they need to thrive.
Our programs provide a balanced mix of learning, recreation, and community connection. Children enjoy nutritious snacks, time to play and be active, help with homework and school projects, and the chance to participate in enriching activities and field trips throughout the year.
We also work closely with families to ensure children have access to the resources they need to feel supported both at the Club and at home.
At the Sandy Club, we support the whole child and their family by offering:
- A welcoming space to build friendships and social confidence
- Safe opportunities for play, sports, and physical activity
- Homework help and academic support
- Activities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and leadership
- Guidance on healthy habits and positive decision-making
- Connections to counseling and supportive services when needed
- School supplies, clothing, and basic necessities for families who need them
- Opportunities to explore and give back to the community
Supporting Families
We know that when families are supported, children are better able to learn, grow, and thrive. In addition to our youth programs, the Sandy Club operates a Family Food Pantry to help ensure that children and their families have access to nutritious food during times of need.
The pantry provides supplemental food support to Club families and helps reduce food insecurity so children can focus on school, friendships, and personal growth. Through generous community donations and partnerships, we are able to provide groceries and essential food items to families throughout the year.
A Trusted, High-Quality Program
Families trust the Sandy Club because we are committed to maintaining a high-quality, safe, and supportive environment for every child. Our program works closely with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services and follows Utah Child Care Licensing standards to ensure best practices in safety, supervision, and youth development.
We are also proud to collaborate with the Utah Afterschool Network, a statewide organization dedicated to strengthening afterschool and summer learning programs for children and families.
Through these partnerships, the Sandy Club stays connected to the latest research, training, and resources that help us provide a safe, enriching, and high-quality experience for every child who walks through our doors.
A Community Effort
Thanks to the generosity of community members, volunteers, and donors, the Sandy Club continues to grow its impact each year. Together, we are helping young people build confidence, discover their strengths, and feel supported as they grow.
We invite you to be part of this work. Whether through volunteering, partnerships, or donations, your support helps ensure that every child has access to a safe place to learn, play, and belong.
